Research Focus Areas

Faculty members at the Rice University Department of Bioengineering have diverse research interests focused on establishing engineering principles and developing cutting-edge technologies to solve a host of life-science problems. Specific research interests include:

• Biomaterials and Drug Delivery,  
• Biomedical Imaging and Diagnostics,
• Cellular and Biomolecular Engineering,
• Computational and Theoretical Bioengineering,
• Supramolecular Biophysics and Bioengineering, and 
• Tissue Engineering and Biomechanics.

The department also conducts number of translational research initiatives focused on connecting basic science and engineering research with clinical applications. These efforts are bolstered by the department's influential partnerships with the Texas Medical Center.
